The Welbeck Hotel and Restaurant in Douglas is to close next month after 48 years of family ownership.

The business has announced that all operations will cease on Monday, November 23, 2026, citing family health circumstances and an increasingly challenging business climate.

In a statement, the George family said the decision had been incredibly difficult and emotional, adding that efforts to find a buyer had been unsuccessful.

The hotel will remain available for sale, with the family hoping a buyer can be found to secure the future of the property.

The family said all existing bookings up to November 23 would be honoured, with the final overnight guests staying on the night of Sunday, November 22.

Guests with reservations beyond the closure date will be contacted individually, and any deposits paid will be refunded in full.

Customers with vouchers have been urged to use them before the business closes.

The hotel's employees have been informed of the situation, with a consultation process under way regarding potential redundancies.

The family said it was grateful for the understanding and professionalism shown by staff during what it described as an unsettling time.

The statement added that all outstanding supplier balances would be settled in full before the business was finalised.

The Welbeck has been family-owned and operated since 1978.

The George family said the hotel had welcomed countless guests, hosted special occasions and built lasting relationships with visitors and the local community over the past 48 years.

They thanked staff, customers, suppliers and the wider Manx community for their support and loyalty throughout that time.
