The first meeting of the Isle of Man Photography Society’s new season of the took place last week, starting with a warm welcome and introduction to new members.

Newly elected president Tony Curtis opened proceedings by outlining some of the plans for the season ahead, while also acknowledging and thanking the committee for their hard work over the summer months.

The committee has been very busy in organising several outings and also constructing a comprehensive and exciting programme for the upcoming season.

Changes for the future will include some alterations to the competition format and judging which will ensure a more inclusive process that captures the broad skill set of all members.

The first meeting of the new season is always an informal event where members are able to show a collection of images they have captured over the summer months.

This week was no exception with a good number of members displaying a range of images captured both on and off the island.

The recent restrictions on travel have certainly encouraged members to rediscover some of the island’s beauty and to visit places they hadn’t been to for many years and this was evident in the broad spectrum of images shown.

The images ranged from beautiful landscapes, fantastic images of wildlife, birds of prey in all their glory and a biography of family events, hobbies and projects, truly showing the diversity of members’ interests.

The summer break has also seen the launch of the society’s new website which can be found at www.iomps.com and if you have never visited the site it is well worth spending a few minutes looking at some of the work and history of the organisation.

The members’ gallery continues to grow and over time it will become a space where members are able to showcase their work.

The society’s next meeting will be October 13 when it will enjoy an evening with Pat Tutt a long-time friend of the IoMPS.

She will present her expert views on visions and compositions - rules, strategies and methodologies and ’photographs that win’.

It is sure to be an entertaining evening and all are welcome to attend, non-members also welcome, with a modest entry fee.

All meetings are held on Wednesday evenings at St John Ambulance HQ off Glencrutchery Road, starting at 7pm.Full details at www.iomps.com
