One of the defining bands of 90s Britpop are heading back to the Isle of Man for a concert later this year.
Tickets went on sale this week for the return of the Lightning Seeds, who are set to appear on the Royal Hall at the Villa Marina on Saturday, May 16.
This will be the second time the Liverpudlian pop-rockers have appeared on the island, following on from their hugely popular pre-TT concert at the former Bushys’ Beer tent, at the Bottleneck in 2017.
The band are touring the UK to mark the 25th anniversary of the release of their landmark third album ’Jollification’, officially released in July 1994.
The album launched the Lightning Seeds, fronted by singer and guitarist Ian Broudie, to the top of the charts and was packed with memorable hit songs, such as ’Lucky You’, ’Marvellous’ and ’Change’ and paved the way for the band to be one of the iconic 90s groups to emerge from out of the UK.
The tour will also see the band play a set of greatest hits of their other well-known hits, such as ’Life of Riley’, ’Sugar Coated Iceberg’ and ’Pure’.
They are being brought back to the island by Lenny Conroy and Triskel Promotions, who also introduced them to the island three years ago.
’The band were keen to return to the island after such a great reception,’ said Lenny, who revealed that he managed to book the group less than 24 hours after securing the appearance of Sinead O’Connor, who appeared during December last year.
’It took me completely by surprise, as I had been out in the wilderness a little for the last couple of years, ironically after the last Lightning Seeds show in 2017, and a little after, with Primal Scream.
’I had only made preliminary enquiries with both acts but the response was very positive and very swift.
’This is the first Triskel show of the year and if the 2017 concert is anything to go by, it will be unmissable.
’We were treated to a greatest hits set last time and this time we have their defining ’Jollification’ album, along with even more hits.’
Support will come from the local indie rock group Voodoo Bandits.
Tickets are £32, available from the Villa Marina box office and Welcome Centre, on 600555, and online from villagaiety.com
