Betty Pie Co is moving to the Bungalow.
Owner Vicky Quirk explained her plans now that she and her husband, Ben, have taken over the lease on the Department of Infrastructure-owned building, previously the home of Murray’s Motor Museum.
She said: ’We have started work but there’s an awful lot to do up there so, for this year’s TT, we will just be having a pop-up canteen with a view to being open properly for TT next year.
’We hope people will bear with us this year and support us in this huge mission.’
Ben’s enterprise, the Manx Cider Co will eventually be moving its production up to the Bungalow, too.
Vicky said that she is very mindful of what a cold spot it can be, even in the summer.
She said: ’We want to provide somewhere where people can come and warm up with a bellyful of good food and a hot tea or coffee.’
Her pies, including favourites like the steak and ale, will continue to be prominent on the menu but she says that she also wants to offer ’a great breakfast and a traditional Sunday lunch’ as well.
Vicky is looking to refocus on using as much local meat and produce as possible.
She said: ’We want to start working more directly with farmers to buy ingredients.
’The reason we chose pies in the first place was because it was something that you could make almost completely using Manx meat and produce.
’The DEFA has helped us no end since we started five years ago and we’re really proud of the great products we’ve got here in the island.’
