The art gallery Artea in Port Erin is launching a new photography exhibition tomorrow (Friday, February 4).

The exhibition will showcase work by Jimmy Thistle.

Jimmy was born in Glasgow where he worked as a commercial photographer.

Unfortunately, life got in the way of Jimmy’s love of photography, and his passion for taking pictures had to take a back seat.

After relocating to the Isle of Man during the pandemic in 2020, he picked up his camera in a time of ’recovery and soul searching’.

Finding his passion for photography again has helped him through some seriously tough times and he is loving being back behind the lens.

The new exhibition, entitled ’Wild Wanderings’ is a photographic look at the Isle of Man through his eyes.

A quick glance on his Instagram account (@jimmy_thistle_photo ) gives you an insight into the types of photos that will be on display. Sweeping shots of Laxey seafront, empty benches across the island and a pay phone brought into sharp focus are among the most striking.

The open-door launch will take place between 6pm and 9pm at Artea, 12 Bridson St, Port Erin (across from Shoprite). The exhibition will be on daily (Wed-Sun) until Thursday, March 10.

Artea is a low commission community focused art gallery.
