The number of people out of work has risen again.

Government statistics released today say that there were 399 people registered as unemployed at the end of March.

That’s 26 more than at the end of the month before - but it’s 108 fewer than in March 2017.

In March 2013 the figure was 1,208/

During the month, 146 people signed on, while 120 signed off.

The official unemployment rate is 0.9%.

But, using the International Labour Organisation methodology, the figures are 844 unemployed and a rate of 2%.

That compares well internationally. In the UK it’s 4.3%.

At the end of the month, there were 527 vacancies at the Job Centre.

The sector with the greatest number of vacancies was catering and entertainment, with 130.
