Musicians, singers, dancers and a whole range of variety performances will come together to perform at a community concert in the heart of Jurby this weekend.
Organised by the team at the Jurby and Northern Community Initiatives charity, the ’Evening of Entertainment’ takes place in the Jurby Parish hall on Saturday, June 22, from 6.30pm.
The evening will see dance performances from two youth dance groups, the Manx Trinity Academy of Irish Dance and a debut display from a new local group, the Jurby Jig Kids.
There will also be an appearance by Vlad the Piper, and a rare performance by the Braaid Eisteddfod regular Eric Goldie, playing his musical saw, and a local magic act, the enigmatically named Professor and Mrs Marvo.
The Michael Players will also perform a repeat of their Manx dialect play ’In the Doctor’s Waiting Room’, which was a hit at the Oie’ll Verree concert in Kirk Michael and also at the recent Sophia Morrison concert at the Peel Centenary Centre.
The idea for the concert was suggested by a Jurby resident, and was developed by several keen and enthusiastic groups around the village.
Angela Quaggin, the centre coordinator for Jurby and Northern Community Initiatives, said that the evening is the result of community groups working and cooperating together .
’It’s wonderful working with the community; seeing ideas take shape and come to fruition’’said Angela.
’When someone approaches you with a passion they’re keen to develop it becomes contagious and you muck in where you can.’
’The creation of the show has demonstrated what can be achieved when people come together.
’A member of the Secret Stitch Society, who hold their sessions at Jurby Community Centre, kindly created a stage curtain and Jurby Youth Club members painted the backdrop.
’A number of people have provided valuable input at all stages and we’re incredibly grateful for them sharing their time and talents. This has been made possible through real community collaboration.’
Tickets for the evening are priced at £2 each, with £1 for children, and are available on the door on the night
They can also be purchased in advance from Jurby Stores or Jurby Community Centre.
Refreshments will be available on the evening or feel free to BYO.
