St Mark’s Country Park is hosting a talk this week on how to save the ’Asian Unicorn’ from extinction.
We previously reported how Lorraine Scotson, a field coordinator, is working with a conservation group to protect the saola, known as the ’Asian unicorn’, which is the world’s most recently discovered large mammal, only being recorded in 1992.
The talk at St Mark’s is being presented by Bill Robichaud, co-founder of the International Union for Conservation of Nature Saola Working Group.
Following his talk, Bill will be able to answer questions on the animal and how Manx residents can play a role in its preservation.
Miss Scotson previously told us: ’The saola is one of the most endangered creatures on the planet, it only lives Annamite Mountains, along the Vietnam-Laos border. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to contribute to potentially rescuing one of the most endangered mammals.
’And that isn’t an exaggeration.’
The event is on Saturday, March 9, with free entry, doors opening at 2.30pm for a 3pm start. Free tea, coffee and cake will be provided.
