Some of the island’s best-known artists have combined their skills and talents to create a bright and seasonal art exhibition.

Fourteen local painters, ceramicists and crafters have contributed art work to ’Northern Lights’, a new display housed at the Isle Contemporary gallery, Tynwald Mills, which opened last weekend.

Described as an ’eclectic celebration of summer art’, the exhibition features a number of works of art which have been inspired by summer on the Isle of Man.

Painters, such as Colette Gambol, Karolina Pawlowska, Nicola Dixon and Graham Rider have produced a wide variety of paintings, including abstracts and classic landscapes of beach scenes, and artists such Olivia Savage, who is working at the gallery in between studying for an art degree at Leeds University, and exhibition organiser Kate Jerry, from the Isle Contemporary gallery .

’The title of the exhibition is not so much about the "Northern Lights" themselves, but it is more about the Isle of Man and its position in the northern hemisphere,’ said Kate.

’We wanted to celebrate and showcase some of the creative talents that we have on the island.

’We have made it a summer-themed display, and the idea is to have lots of brightly coloured, pictures and artworks that will cheer people up.’

’Northern Lights’ is free to view, and will remain on display until September 22.
