BBC Radio 4 aired a programme dedicated to poetry written in Manx dialect earlier this week.

The half-hour programme, produced as part of the ’Tongue and Talk’ series, which looks at dialectal poetry from areas across the British Isles, aired on Sunday evening, and was presented by the actor and writer Catherine Harvey, who grew up in the island.

The programme looked at the work of Manx poets TE Brown, Josephine Kermode, better known by her pen name ’Cushag’, and Kathleen Faragher, visited Maughold Church and Glen Mona, discussed the impact of Sophia Morrison with Dr Breesha Maddrell, and also heard original work by the Manx bards Annie Kissack and John ’Dog’ Callister.

The show is available to listen to again on BBC Sounds.
