The race to become the Isle of Man's next Chief Minister enters a crucial stage today as Kirrie Jenkins and Chris Thomas face questions from fellow MHKs.

The two candidates will take part in a hustings in the Legislative Council Chamber from 1pm, giving members of the House of Keys an opportunity to scrutinise their plans before next Tuesday's vote.

Jenkins, the newly elected Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK, is seeking to become the island's first female Chief Minister. She faces Thomas, the experienced Douglas Central MHK and current Treasury Minister.

Both candidates need the support of at least 13 of the 24 MHKs to secure the position, but questions remain over whether either can command a majority.

The hustings is not open to the public or media, but it will be streamed online.
