A coastguard team in the south of the island took part in an unusual training exercise on Friday.

The Port Erin Coastguard Rescue Team honed their skills thanks to the use of three loaghtan sheep on the Calf of Man.

The exercise helped the team practice their cliff rescue skills during the evening.

Posting pictures on social media, Isle of Man Coastguard said: ‘Port Erin Coastguard Rescue Team rescued three loaghtan sheep on the Calf of Man last night as part of a planned training exercise.

‘The sheep were trapped on cliffs at Gibdale on the north side of the island.

‘Many thanks to Boat Trips Isle of Man for the transport to and from the island, and to the Calf of Man wardens for their assistance.’
