The London Manx Society is looking for more members.

Professor Bryan Corrin, president of the society, which was established in 1895, is concerned at the ’shrinking numbers’ of members and has challenged the committee to recruit more.

This was announced during the society’s recent annual general meeting held in London.

As it stands, the LMS has 97 members, an increase of one over last year.

It was suggested that the committee should set itself a target of 105 members at the end of the year in a recruitment drive.

During the meeting it was announced that no nomination for a new president had been made ahead of Professor Corrin retiring at the end of his three year term. No election was held but Alastair Kneale will be appointed to fill the office.

Re-elected members included: Douglas Barr-Hamilton as secretary, Sam Weller as treasurer with Stewart Christian, Alastair Kneale, Sally Miller and Maron Honeybourne on the committee with past president Professor Corrin joining ex-officia.

The society will be having its annual lunch on June 1 at Doubletree by Hilton at 92 Southampton Row, London, at 12pm. Committee member Sally Miller and her husband Peter will open their house for the society’s Tynwald Cooish on July 13. This will take place at 1pm at 225 Chesterton Road, Cambridge. A mhelliah will take place on October 14 from 12pm at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street, City of London, followed by a lunch at Punch Tavern in Fleet Street.
