A 22-year-old Onchan man has been convicted of possessing £340 worth of cannabis.
John William Kelly, of Lhon Vane Close, admitted two counts of possession and will be sentenced on October 29 after a probation report has been prepared.
Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court how police spoke to Kelly after they stopped him in a car in Victoria Street in Douglas on July 19.
Cannabis weighing 16.4 grams, valued at £328, was found in his pocket.
He said it was for personal use.
In a separate incident on September 5, police executed a search warrant at Kelly’s Onchan home and a further £12 worth of the drug was found.
Record
The second offence was committed while Kelly was on bail for the first.
Defence advocate Matthew Wilshaw asked for a probation report to be compiled before sentencing and said that the offences may put his client in breach of a previous probation order.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that Kelly had a ’significant’ record for similar offences and ordered that the report consider all options, including custody.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500.
Bail conditions include that Kelly resides at his home address, contact probation and not leave the island without court permission.
