Some lucky people in the island will receive a food box donated by a Manx sports star this Good Friday.

Road racing cyclist Mark Cavendish announced that Robinson’s Fresh Foods would be delivering 60 fruit and veg boxes to random addresses across the island today as an Easter treat from him.

After buying one of the boxes from Robinson’s, he and his wife, Peta, were inspired to help residents by covering the cost of the food boxes for others.

He wrote on Instagram that they ’hope it can be a small help in our little community’.

Janna Horsthuis, manager of Robinson’s, said the company decided that, after being contacted by the Manx Missile, their van drivers would take the boxes and drop them to random doors all over the island.

She added they have also received numerous donations from plan.com, who covered the amount for 150 food boxes to be delivered to Noble’s Hospital to help the nurses and doctors.

’As a business we have lost a huge amount of trade with the closure of schools, restaurants, cafe and hotels so to help the business keep moving we have introduced home delivery,’ she said. ’This will help our suppliers locally to keep stock moving but also helping out island-wide community to revive food delivery.

’We can’t thank our own team enough for keeping the business moving and their positive attitude is infectious.’
