It seems that Christmas may not be over on the island for some of our young musicians.
The Manx Youth Orchestra will hold their rescheduled Christmas concert on Tuesday, February 6, at the Villa Marina, complete with tinsel and all the Christmas trimmings you would expect, after they were forced to postpone the original night, which was due to be held in the first week of December.
The organisers were forced to cancel their original Christmas concert in the wake of the heavy snowfall that fell on the island at the beginning of the festive period, but Maggie Richardson, head of music service at the Department of Education, Sport and Culture, who leads the orchestra, vowed that they wouldn’t be deterred by a little rough weather.
’The young performers were so excited about taking part in our biggest concert of the year, some for the first time,’ she said.
’We’re determined that all their hard work and enthusiasm won’t be wasted, and holding our festive celebration in February will give everyone something cheery to look forward to.’
The concert is a highlight of the Music service calender, and features more than 200 young musicians, who take part in nine different musical groups.
The concert offers valuable experience for young performers to appear in front of a large audience.
’The weather outside was frightful but it certainly hasn’t dampened our spirit,’ Maggie added.
’Our programme will be changed a little but we will keep the festive feel at the centre of our evening and we hope the audience will enter into the spirit of the occasion with us.’
Any tickets bought for the December concert will still be valid for the February date.
More tickets are on sale, priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children, and are available from the Welcome Centre and Villa Marina box office, or online from villagaiety.com
