From the first step into the Porsche showroom in Jacksons you start to feel as if something special is about to happen.

Being greeted by Warren Beckwith, the Porsche brand manager, was reassuring with his passion for the cars and making you feel relaxed in a very organised and polished environment.

Jacksons had chosen Porsche’s Macan sports utility vehicle for my road test.

Warren ran through the controls with me, so that I was ready to embark on my trip to collect my son Tom from university in Cardiff.

My initial feeling once in the vehicle was a definite wow factor.

The smell of the fine leather was sublime, which added to a truly unique experience.

The build quality of such a prestigious brand did not disappoint.

From the feel of the steering wheel to the closing of the door, this car oozes pure quality.

I am experiencing something I have never felt before, sheer amazement of something so incredibly well built that felt like every attention to detail had been precisely delivered to perfection.

At first I thought, how can a car be worth £58,995?

This just seems rather expensive. However, when you experience the drive and build quality of this machine you realise it is on a completely different level.

Now to plan my route to Cardiff, should I go the boring M6/M5/M50/M4 route or should I drive from the North West starting position of Liverpool through Wales and many wonderful bends?

It wasn’t a difficult decision.

Time was on my side as I exited the ferry so I chose the slower direct route. This would be a good test for the car and I would experience its full potential even though the Macan is fitted with road reading technology to keep you in the lanes on the motorway.

The satellite navigation system fitted in the car is very easy to use and you get a huge display, 10.9 inches, which is easily twice as big as the average system.

My father in-law has smaller TVs in his house.

It also has a 3D mapping option, which makes reading the sat nav incredibly easy to use.

Once you have set your destination the automatic gear box with seven gears is very simple and you can relax in a very comfortable seat as you sweep towards your end goal.

The engine for a two-litre twin turbo is very responsive and sounds great as you accelerate through the gears, especially in sports mode.

There are also gear changing paddles on the steering wheel which add to the sports experience and ease of driving the car.

The road handling is just so good, with the four-wheel drive it purrs as it moves around so effortlessly with superb responsive steering.

The fuel economy is pretty good also, a 500-mile trip costing around £70 in super unleaded fuelâ?¦ not bad considering the speed of the twin turbo and the same trip in September cost me £130 in my supercharged Range Rover.

On arrival in Cardiff we set about loading the car and there is plenty of space in this mini sports SUV, my last car had a huge boot however although not as big as the Vogue it still provided plenty of room once the seats are positioned flat which gives you lots of loading space.

The road tax is also very affordable at only £295 a year, which for a car of this quality I was pleasantly surprised.

I can honestly say that I have not driven (so far) a better vehicle, from the engine to the build quality this was a memorable experience that hopefully will one day lead to me owning a Porsche - just pure exceptional quality.
