An innovative online charity concert has ended up raising thousands of pounds for a local mental health charity, far outreaching the expectations of the organisers.

The Music 4 Motiv8 online festival saw more than 40 local musicians and DJs performing and taking part in a 12-hour musical marathon over the internet, watched by many people from the comfort of their own homes.

DJs from the Mixtape IOM Facebook page kicked off the event at midday and singer-songwriter Stevie Nash got the guitarists and singers off at 1pm, followed by a long list of musicians, including Callum Brew, Sy Hurst,David Castro, Alex Harris, Ash Ashenafi, Kizzie Puzzar, Jay O’Connell, Jon Lightfield, Tom Baker, Ruby Biscoe-Taylor, Eoin Molyneux, Nigel Thjis, Trevor Shimmin, Alice Dudley, Terry and Brad, Ian Thompson, Rebecca Forrest , Jamie Blackburn and Teresa McNulty, who performs as ’Tiger Boom’.

Sunset Jet, who finished off the night, were able to play as a whole band as they all live together.

The event was organised by Theresa McNulty and Andy Saunders, with Seb Fosdal taking on the tricky role of making all the individual steams come together in a seamless broadcast.

’It was absolutely brilliant and the response was fantastic,’ said Andy.

’In the end we raised more than £3,200, which is a remarkable amount of money.

’We didn’t really know what to expect, but we didn’t expect that. Certainly we didn’t expect that from an online event.’

The event was broadcast over a variety of online streaming platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitch and Vimeo, with much of the footage still available to watch.

’I honestly thought that if we made £1,500 we would be doing well, so to get double that is a great achievement and it means that Motiv8, who we will donate the money too, will be able to do so much good with that.

’I watched every second of the event, and the musicians and the DJs were amazing.

’Seb, together with Rachel Corlett and Sam Martin, did a brilliant job of keeping everything going, and we have to thank ELS for letting us use their equipment.

’Now we are looking forward to hold this again, as part of our "Start A Conversation" event in front a live audience later this year.’
