Mountain View Innovation Centre is seeking a new catering partner for Babbage's Bistro after plans for the venue's previous operator to return were brought to an ‘unfortunate’ end.

The bistro closed temporarily during this summer, with the centre previously expecting Bartłomiej Czapczynski to resume operating the catering service. However, Babbage’s has now confirmed that Mr Czapczynski will not be returning.

In a statement, Babbage’s Bistro said: ‘Following the temporary closure, we had been looking forward to welcoming Bartłomiej back as our catering partner.

‘Unfortunately, Bart has informed us that he will not be returning to operate Babbage's Bistro due to circumstances relating to his legal right to work in the Isle of Man. Whilst we are naturally disappointed by this news, we would like to thank Bart for his contribution and wish him every success for the future.’

The statement added that Mountain View Innovation Centre will shortly invite expressions of interest from experienced catering providers interested in becoming the new operator of Babbage's Bistro.

‘This is to ensure Babbage's Bistro can reopen as soon as possible,’ the spokesperson said.

‘Further details of this exciting opportunity will be announced shortly. In the meantime, we would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we work to secure a new operator.’

In response to the statement, comments on social media thanked Mr Czapczynski for his efforts at the Bistro.

One comment read: ‘So sad to hear. Bart really put Babbages on the map - not just with the Bistro (his evening events were legendary) but also the Christmas and craft fairs.

‘I’m hoping someone else will want to step in, but there’s a high bar to meet.’

Another comment said: ‘Bart is a brilliant cook and a great advocate of Manx produce. He will be missed.’
