Improved access for those with disablities will be installed at Braddan Bridge House in time for TT 2018.

The Joey Dunlop Foundation’s self-catering apartments will have its current wooden ramp replaced with a concrete slope.

This wheelchair-friendly facility will allow guests direct level access to apartment two.

’It is not always possible for staff to be available when people arrive,’ says manager Gilly Keown.

’The improved access will eliminate the need for extra assistance.’

Mark Master Masons from the Isle of Man, the UK based Joey Dunlop Lodge of Mark Master Masons and the Mark Benevolent Fund of Leicester and Rutland will fund the refurbishment using donations they have raised.

Leicester and Rutland brethren have raised £2,000 towards the cause.

Foundation trustee Bruce Baker stated that the foundation is continually raising funds throughout the year.

He said: ’The biggest problem is to find volunteers to sell our tombola tickets in a section of the Peter Murray Motorcycle Museum in Santon, during the TT and the Festival of Motorcycling.’

The Joey Dunlop Foundation, which is an Isle of Man charity, provides self-catering accommodation for disabled visitors to the island and also helps residents who are in need of temporary facilities, such as during home repairs and renovations.

Its Braddan Bridge House apartments allow disabled guests to experience close-up action of the TT races and, although fully booked before the race period, it is open all year round for those needing to use its facilities.

The accommodation was opened by Linda Dunlop in June 2010, who was accompanied by John McGuinness, a successful TT rider.
