Port St Mary will continue to have a post office.

The Isle of Man Post Office has appointed a new sub postmaster for Port St Mary.

From February 28, David East will take over from the outgoing sub postmaster, Jeff Calvert.

Mr East has bought the newsagents on Bay View Road in Port St Mary and applied for the position.

He was awarded the contract to provide counter services on behalf of the Post Office and its commercial partners from his newsagents.

Chris Thomas MHK, chairman of the Post Office, said: ’On behalf of the Isle of Man Post Office board, I wish to thank Mr Calvert and his wife Tina for their tenure and for agreeing to facilitate a smooth transition of the counter service to Mr East, I wish everyone involved well for the future.’

During the changeover and training period, there will be some variations to the opening hours of Port St Mary post office as follows:

Week beginning February 21:

-Mon-Thurs - 9am - 5.30pm

-Fri - 9am - 2pm

-Sat - Closed

Week beginning February 28:

-Mon - 11am - 12pm & 1pm - 5.30pm

- Tues-Fri 9am - 12pm & 1pm - 5.30pm

-Sat - 9am - 12.30pm
