The Manx Wildlife Trust has launched a website featuring island species and a guide to habitats.
The ’Explore the Isle of Man’ section gives details of whales, dolphins, basking sharks, seals, seabirds.
It also features a video of from reserve officer Tricia Sayle of an orchid walk around the Close Sartfield nature reserve in the Ballaugh Curraghs.
The site, mwt.im, also has advice on wildlife gardening, educational activities, and a range of ways in which people can help nature through volunteering with the MWT.
There are also lots of projects to get involved with including butterfly counts, hedgehog surveys, nurdle hunts and keeping an eye out for invasive non-native species.
Manx Wildlife Trust marketing and membership manager Graham Makepeace-Warne said: ’Our new website represents a great deal of work by the whole team at the MWT over the last couple of years.
’The recent Covid-19 epidemic illustrated just how important online resources are.
’Throughout lockdown, our biodiversity and education officer, Dawn Dickens, along with others at the MWT, produced a vast range of interesting and educational videos for people to enjoy which are combined with fun activities and useful spotting sheets.’
He added: ’Engaging with people, both in the Isle of Man and across the British Isles, about Manx wildlife and encouraging them to connect more strongly with nature is a crucial part of our remit.
’We hope our new online resource will really help people to connect better with wildlife and the wonderful natural environment in the Isle of Man and make choices that support Manx wildlife for the future.’
