A plasterer from the Isle of Man has had his X-Factor ambitions dashed.

But despite being ditched by the judges, Sam Smith did at least get one ’yes’- after proposing on the stage at Wembley Arena to his long-term girlfriend Emma.

The 27-year-old had impressed the X-Factor judges with his performances on the hit TV show last month. But at the weekend, his two attempts at Runaway by Del Shannon left Simon Cowell disappointed. ’We are going to have to say no,’ he said.

But the talented singer from Cronk y Berry, who performed under the name Sam Black, asked for one favour before he went - and invited his girlfriend on stage and then popped the question. ’At least I got one "yes" today,’ he said. ’That’s probably better than a yes from us,’ said Simon.
