A Douglas landmark beloved of club-goers over the decades is up for sale.

Paramount City, previously the Crescent and known as by its old name again after Paramount City closed, will go under the auctioneer’s hammer at the Meridien Hotel in London, on Monday, February 20.

The property, described as an art deco nightclub with two flats above, is on Queen’s Promenade next to the horse tram stables and has a guide price of £400,000. Sale particulars say the building ’offers potential’ for change of use , including residential.

The closure and possible change of use for the club is part of a continuing trend seen at the northern reaches of Douglas, with entertainment concentrated in the town centre as venues such as Paramount, Summerland and White City have closed over the years.

Douglas Council leader David Christian said it was symptomatic of changing times, with fewer tourists, fewer venues to service the tourist industry and less vibrant night life in the capital.
