The Manx Labour party is celebrating its 100th birthday with a party.
When the party was formed, most of the Manx public didn’t even have the vote, and there was no old age pension or national health service.
The party says it helped bring forward votes for all adults, the introduction of electricity across the island, pensions, improving healthcare, social housing, and employment rights.
’I guess our approach is that the world we have now didn’t just happen by accident, said spokesperson Alice Quayle.
’People had to imagine the world they wanted and work to make it happen.’
The Manx Labour party says it is ’about progressive politics, focused on making our island "strong and fair" for all.
The party, which includes a concert, takes place tomorrow (Friday) at Laxey Institute. Doors open at 7pm.
It is raising funds for Housing Matters (IOM), the Foodbank, and Women’s Aid (IOM).
The Manx Labour party has one member in Tynwald, David Cretney MLC.
