The outer lane access road at Ronaldsway airport has been closed in the wake of the national terrorism threat level being increased to ’critical’ in the UK.

Anyone dropping off or picking up passengers will now have to go into the main airport car park and will be able to park for 10 minutes free of charge.

The inner lane can only be used by authorised users including buses, airport staff, taxis, Post Office vehicles and passengers with reduced mobility.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that a passenger apparently acting suspiciously was removed from a Gatwick flight by aviation security at Ronaldsway.

The incident happened on board the easyJet evening flight to Gatwick on Sunday.

A male passenger apparently got up to remove something from his bag during the safety demonstration and again while the aircraft was taxiing onto the runway.

The aircraft taxied back to the stand and the passenger removed by aviation security at the request of the captain.

He was spoken to by airport security officers but it is not thought any further action was taken.

The incident resulted in a short delay to the flight’s take-off.

Ports director Ann Reynolds confirmed a passenger was taken off the easyJet flight to Gatwick on Sunday night.

An easyJet spokesman said: 'easyJet can confirm that flight EZY856 from the Isle of Man to London Gatwick on May 21 returned to stand and was met by police due to a passenger behaving disruptively.

'easyJet’s cabin crew are highly trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

'Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard.

'The safety and well-being of passengers and crew is always easyJet's priority.'
