A six-month-old cockapoo has been voted as the ’spookiest pet’ in a competition run by the ManxSPCA.

Penny the dog was rewarded with treats, not tricks, after a photo of her dressed as a bright, orange pumpkin received the most likes on a Facebook contest.

Her owners are Stephanie Clucas, Grace Kelly and Max Kelly, who is the executive head teacher of Dhoon and Laxey primary schools.

Liam Rice, PR and fundraising manager, said: ’We got around 35 entries and they were all great. The winner however was chosen by the amount of likes they got and Penny was our deserving winner.

’She is really lovely and wants to be friends with everyone.

’As far as I am aware here at the ManxSPCA, we haven’t done anything like this before but I knew it would go down well as people love their pets (and social media).

’It was a way to raise our profile and get more people involved with us and a way to engage with our supporters and make new ones.’

The ManxSPCA ran the social media competition from October 8 to October 22.

In order to be in with a chance of winning a bag of goodies, pet owners had to like the ManxSPCA Facebook page, share the competition post and post a photo of their pet in the comments section for the public to vote on.

Those who wished to donate towards the charity could also do so by following the link: paypal.me/ManxSPCA.

Penny’s picture, right, gained more than 65 likes.

She received a new bed, toys, and edible treats.
