Volunteers behind the restoration of Ramsey Pier will have to wait to the spring for new steel trusses to be installed.

Project manager Stuart McKenzie said: ’After the steel arrived we had a very narrow window to apply the four epoxy undercoats before installation and the cold snap scuppered our chances.

’I estimate fitting the steel in March at the earliest.’

Stuart said the scaffold planks have to be lifted on December 1 by order of the insurers and will be up until at least February.

Volunteers have assembled the 15 girder sections manufactured by Gallas Foundry into five complete trusses.
