A plan for a new substation in a Douglas church has been submitted as part of the promenade regeneration scheme.
The application (20/00330/B) is for Loch Promenade Methodist Church, where the existing Howard Street substation is located.
Manx Utilities and the church plans to relocate the 1970s-built substation from the basement of the building to a new room at ground level that can be accessed from the rear lane. The substation forms a critical part of the electricity infrastructure of lower Douglas, providing power to homes and businesses.
During the prom scheme, Manx Utilities has reviewed its infrastructure and judged a replacement substation is needed ’to help meet the future demands likely to be placed on it’.
