Plans for a memorial to the island’s Covid-19 victims are still being looked at by the government, says Health Minister David Ashford.
The Isle of Man Examiner inquired after a bereaved family member of a Covid victim from the Abbotswood nursing home expressed his frustration that he had not heard about any government proposals for a memorial, suggesting it could be placed near the home.
Mr Ashford also explained that a memorial is unlikely to be installed until after the pandemic is over, because ’as with most memorials they are established after the event not generally during’.
An Examiner reporter asked Chief Minister Howard Quayle about plans for a memorial during a Covid press briefing in April, following the development of a national memorial in the UK - where a wall along the Thames has been painted with hearts into a mural.
He said government would come up proposals once pressure eased from fighting the virus.
