One of the most anticipated nights in the local poetry world is to be held later this year.

The Isle of Man Poetry Slam is set to take place on Friday, November 12, at the Port St Mary Town Hall, from 8pm.

The event is organised by the Manx Litfest and is taking place even though the literary festival has been put off for another year because of the current Covid situation.

Poets are invited to throw their hat into the ring, get up and perform one of their own poems for no more than three minutes in front of a crowd and a panel of judges, with marks give for style, presentation and originality.

Past winners include Bridge Carter in 2012, Georgia Lisette in 2013 and 14, sisters Jennifer Davies and Lisa Creighton in 2015 and 16, news presenter Howard Caine in 2018 and Manx Bard John ’Dog’ Callister in 2019.

The current champion is Jackie Morrey -Grace, who retained her crown after first winning in 2017.

Tickets for the event are available, priced £5, from the Isle of Man Poetry Society Facebook page.
