A Douglas MHK has said he is hopeful The Manor pub in Willaston will reopen under new management after its current operator prepares to call last orders later this week.
Damian Ciappelli, MHK for Douglas North, said he was optimistic the pub would reopen soon, describing it as an important community hub for the area.
In a statement, Mr Ciappelli said the announcement would be disappointing news for the Willaston community and the wider area.
He said: ‘I hope that the venue will continue to trade under new management in due course.
‘I am optimistic that in early course the Manor will re-open and continue its long-standing role as an important community hub in the centre of this large close-knit community.’
Mr Ciappelli said he recognised the challenges facing community pubs and highlighted their importance in bringing people together, supporting social interaction and promoting wellbeing.
He added that he understood the landlord had already begun searching for an alternative tenant.
‘I believe that the venue offers a real opportunity for an enterprising operator to take advantage of the significant goodwill associated with it,’ he said.
‘I am hopeful that an alternative service provider will be identified in early course.’
Mr Ciappelli said he was taking a keen interest in the pub’s future and was willing to assist those involved to help ensure it continued to serve the community.
The Manor’s final night under Heron & Brearley will be marked by an Oktoberfest-themed farewell event, beginning at 8pm on Saturday.
Admission will be free, but tickets are required and will be available from the pub from Monday on a first-come, first-served basis.
Heron & Brearley thanked customers and everyone who had supported the pub during its time operating the venue.
The Manor was originally built as a manor house in 1844 before converting into a public house in 1954.
