Another candidate has come forward for the Douglas East constituency.

Information technology professional Peter Gilmour says he has worked for clients in the eGaming industry, specialising in data engineering and data science.

He says his priorities are the economy, government reform (both local and national), affordable housing and combating climate change.

Over the course of his career, he served with the Royal Air Force for almost a decade.

After entering IT, he worked with companies on and off island including British Aerospace, Standard Bank of South Africa, EDS/Hewlett Packard and Maersk Shipping.

As well as professional certificates in IT technologies and project management, Mr Gilmour has an engineering degree and master’s degree in international business.

Mr Gilmour said: ’I’ve always been keenly involved in Manx politics, helping with previous campaigns over many years.

’This time around, I felt it was time I put myself forward as someone with useful experience who can step up and stop the island repeating mistakes made by the past three administrations.’

The general election takes place on September 23.

All 24 seats are up for grabs. There are 12 constituencies, all with two members.

The candidates who have announced so far are Clare Barber, who is defending her seat; former MHK and current mayor of Douglas Jon Joughin; Michael Josem, who stood unsuccessfully in the Douglas South by-election last year; Joney Faragher of Manx Labour and Christine Urquhart, the founding chairperson of Ellan Vannin Victims Service.

The other current MHK for Douglas East, Chris Robertshaw, has previously said he is not planning to stand again.
