Another MLC wants to move to the House of Keys.

Jane Poole-Wilson, who became a Member of the Legislative Council - Tynwald’s upper chamber - in May 2017, is standing to win a seat in Middle.

A fifth candidate, Marown commissioner Alison Lynch, has also come forward.

Mrs Poole-Wilson's colleague, Kate Lord-Brennan, wants to move from LegCo too. She is standing for the Keys in Glenfaba and Peel.

Mrs Poole-Wilson, who was born in the Isle of Man, has lived in the constituency, in Glen Vine, for 15 years.

Educated at Ballakermeen High School and St Catherine’s College, University of Oxford, Mrs Poole-Wilson’s professional background is in employment law.

Now a non-practising solicitor, she spent more than 10 years working in the City of London.

After returning to the island in 2005, she worked as a consultant, providing advice and specialist training to multi-national clients around the world.

First elected to the Legislative Council in May 2017, Jane was re-elected in March 2018 for a five-year term.

Mrs Poole-Wilson has undertaken a range of parliamentary and government roles in her time so far in Tynwald.

She said: ’The island faces a number of critical issues in the next administration and I seek the trust of Middle voters to represent them and to use my skills and experience to date to contribute to the future positive development of the island for everyone.

’I look forward to talking to the constituents of Middle over the coming weeks to discuss their questions and views.’

Members of the House of Keys are elected by the general public. Members of the Legislative Council, which mainly acts as a revising chamber, are elected by MHKs.

Both MHKs and MLCs are members of Tynwald.

There are now five candidates for the constituency, which encompasses Braddan, Marown and Santon.

All Keys constituencies return two members.

As well as Mrs Poole-Wilson and Mrs Lynch, the other candidates in Middle are:

Keiran Hannifin, a first-time candidate, is a part-time cleaner, graphic designer and illustrator.

David Fowler, who has stood for election unsuccessfully three times already, is a landscape gardener.

Stu Peters, who quit his Manx Radio show last week stand.

Both of the constituency’s current MHKs, Chief Minister Howard Quayle and Bill Shimmins, are not seeking re-election.

Mrs Poole-Wilson is married to Alex and has two sons, both of whom went to Marown Primary School.

She has been involved with local community groups, including First Marown Beaver Scouts and Crosby Cricket Club, and was parent governor at Marown School from 2016-2018.

Mrs Poole-Wilson is chair of trustees of St Christopher’s Isle of Man and a director and trustee of Isle of Pride. She also sings with local choir Musicale.

The general election takes place on September 23.

All 24 seats in the House of Keys are up for grabs.
