This week’s Tynwald sitting will see Douglas East MHK Clare Barber attempt to muster support to reinstate the June 12 Senior Race Day bank holiday.
The cancellation of that bank holiday was seemingly the straw that broke the camel’s back as just under 6,000 residents signed a petition after it was dropped by the government last week.
It has since been announced that the bank holiday will be moved to August 28.
Mrs Barber will seek support for her emergency motion to reinstate that bank holiday. However with the Council of Ministers announcing a replacement holiday, she will likely need almost total support from backbenchers and MLCs to win the day.
Elsewhere, the bank holiday’s moving to August is also the subject of an emergency question from Jason Moorhouse (Arbory, Castletown and Malew) who will ask when CoMin discussed the cancellation of the June 12 bank holiday.
Mr Moorhouse will also ask the Chief Minister to make a statement on make a statement on how the proposed quarantine regulations introduced by the UK government will affect Island residents who want to travel to the UK or need to travel through the UK on their way home?
And he will ask Enterprise Minister Laurence Skelly if he will make a statement on applications that were originally deemed ineligible for the Coronavirus Business Support Scheme; and whether similar issues have been experienced with regard to other support schemes which the department is administering?
Elsewhere on the order paper, a series of motions on the continuation of legislation brought about through the Emergency Powers Act will follow a statement by the Chief Minister.
