Flags were flying at half mast outside government buildings today after yesterday’s terror attack in Westminster.

President of Tynwald Steve Rodan sent a message to the UK parliament.

It reads: ’On behalf of Tynwald I extend profound sympathy to the families of the victims of the shocking terrorist attack in London.

’Members of Tynwald and the people of the Isle of Man deplore this assault on the seat of parliamentary democracy at Westminster, with the attendant loss of life and terrible injury to innocent people.

’We stand shoulder to shoulder with fellow parliamentarians in the United Kingdom in resisting such acts of extremist hostility to our way of life.’

Four people died in yesterday’s attack, including the attacker who was shot dead by armed police.

At least 40 others were injured and seven are in a critical condition.

The Islamic State terror group has claimed responsibility for the killings.

The Chief Minister has written to Prime Minister Theresa May about the incident.

Howard Quayle MHK writes: ’I am deeply shocked and extremely saddened by yesterday’s attack on Westminster.

’Please accept my personal condolences and the deepest sympathy of the Isle of Man people on the tragic loss of life and terrible injuries faced by so many.

’We stand with you and all the people of the United Kingdom in solidarity and our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those who have been touched by this atrocious act.

’I would like to offer the Isle of Man’s full support and any assistance that may be needed by the United Kingdom at this time.’
