The Manx Landlords Association is hoping for a good turn-out at a meeting tomorrow evening (Wednesday).

Landlords are urged to attend the event to discuss government plans to regulate the private rented sector.

Brian Stowell of the Association said: ’I cannot over stress the importance of this meeting.

’I am finding landlords that are unaware of the proposed legislation that will undoubtedly affect them dramatically very soon.

’This government Bill will lead to higher rents and less available rental property.’

The meeting takes place at the South Douglas Old Friends’ Association, starting at 7.30pm.

The Landlord Registration Bill aims to establish minimum standards in private rental housing.

But critics say there is not need for such a registered and some landlords may not be able to afford some of the improvements that may be required under the legislation.

An earlier plan for a central register of landlords was dropped in 2015 after a Tynwald committee said the proposals were ’flawed’.
