Money saving ideas are still welcomed by the government - but not for much longer.

Members of the public with ideas to conserve cash have until the deadline on Sunday (May 14) to put their views forward, which they can do on line via the government website at www.gov.im/save

SAVE, the acronym stands for Securing Added Value and Efficiencies, aims to find ways to provide better public services for less cost and the campaign chairman is Bill Shimmins MHK (Middle).

Mr Shimmins said: ’The public has enthusiastically responded to our call for ideas, making more than 750 submissions so far. With less than a week to deadline, I would like to urge everyone who cares about the future of the Isle of Man to use this opportunity to help government streamline its services, cut waste and find new ways of working to create these savings.

’We have offered the public serveral ways to submit their comments, and I want to thank all those who have contributed. Most of the submissions have come through the online ideas hub found on the government website.’

Public drop-in session have also been run at Castletown, Douglas, Peel and Ramsey, as well as at the University College Isle of Man with Mr Shimmins, David Ashford, MHK and Lawrie Hooper, MHK. Ideas have also been submitted in writing using the forms published in the Examiner, Manx Independent and the Courier.

All ideas submitted are to be reviewed by the SAVE team which will then develop proposals for the Council of Ministers. The Council will decide which to adopt across government.

The SAVE scheme was announced in February by Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan, MHK, to generate ideas about how government could reduce spending by £25 million in the next five years.
