Two MHKs have been nominated to become the Isle of Man’s next chief minister.

They are Alfred Cannan, the current Treasury minister, and Alex Allinson, the education minister.

Further proposals could have been made by 5pm today. But there were no more nominations.

Mr Cannan was nominated by Douglas East MHK Clare Barber. Dr Allinson was nominated by Rushen MHK Michelle Haywood.

Each candidate must send a written statement specifying the policies which, if appointed, he or she intends to pursue to the Secretary of the House of Keys by 5pm on Thursday, October 7.

The statements will be issued to the Press on receipt and, in any event, by 5.30pm on Thursday.

The House of Keys will sit for the purpose of nominating the chief minister at 10am on Tuesday, October 12.
