The owners of a popular cafe have revealed their hopes of extending next door.

The Shed cafe in Laxey is applying for planning permission (21/01335/B) to turn the neighbouring, derelict former beach changing rooms into another cafe area.

Bev and Richard Clegg have been granted the lease of the beach hut from Garff Commissioners, and plan to refurbish the building which they describe as ’currently redundant and an eyesore on the popular Laxey promenade’.

They noted that as The Shed was open all year round, that they would like to ’create a small indoor sheltered eating area for our clients’ enjoyment’, as in bad weather The Shed only has a sheltered canopy.

There would be a seating area on the top deck of the beach hut, the frontage replaced with half wood/half glass, and the bottom level used for takeway and retail - with a room to showcase Manx food products and gifts.

Opening hours would be the same as the shed (Monday-Sunday 8am-6pm)

The Cleggs also own the Dhoon cafe, at Dhoon Glen outside of Laxey.
