The carcass of a young porpoise was found washed up on Dog Mills Beach yesterday afternoon.

A reader, Sara Close, contacted Isle of Man Newspapers saying she’d found the whale while out walking her dogs on the beach in the north of the island.

It follows a similar incident in Groudle where a whale carcass was found to have been brought in by a high tide.

Sara said she contacted the Department for Environment, Food and Agriculture and Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch.

A DEFA spokesman confirmed that the whale is a juvenile harbour porpoise and that the marine mammal stranding group have responded to the finding.

They added: ’DEFA coordinate the strandings programme with Manx Wildlife Trust, and all such strandings are attended by volunteers and details recorded and reported.’
