Howard Quayle has made a surprise appearance in the Daily Express.
Our Chief Minister appeared on page 20 of the paper on Thursday.
But it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.
The Express - which bills itself as ’the world’s greatest newspaper’ - ran a story about the possible decriminalisation of assisted dying in Guernsey.
It quotes the Chief Minister of Guernsey. Except it doesn’t.
It quotes Gavin St Pier, who the Express says is the chief minister of our fellow Crown Dependency.
In fact, the position of chief minister in Guernsey was abolished in 2016.
Mr St Pier is the president of the island’s policy and resources committee.
The Express headline asks ’Is Guernsey set to become the UK’s suicide capital?’
Well, since neither Guernsey nor the Isle of Man is in the United Kingdom, that seems unlikely, if not impossible.
To be fair to the Express, there is no caption on Mr Quayle’s photo. So it doesn’t actually say he has anything to do with Guernsey or the assisted dying debate.
