Mary Page, a long serving member of Ramsey Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild, is stepping down after over 30 years of fundraising for the RNLI.
At a celebratory luncheon held in her honour, her guild colleagues gathered to say thank you and present Mary with two beautiful rose bushes for her garden.
Mrs Page joined the Ramsey Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild in 1986 after retiring to Ramsey with her husband, the late Derek Page.
In 1988 she was elected secretary.
Mr Page became a member and eventually chairman of Ramsey RNLI branch committee.
Mr and Mrs Page worked as a team raising funds for the RNLI charity until Derek died in 2004.
Mrs Page passionately carried on with the lifesaving work and was elected chairman of Ramsey Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild in 2005.
Judy James, a long-serving member of the guild, said: ’Volunteers like Mary are the lifeblood of the RNLI.
’Her commitment is exemplary and inspirational.
’She was awarded a Silver Medal in 1998, a Gold Medal in 2009 and a bar to this Gold medal in 2016. These awards were well deserved and acknowledge Mary’s dedication. She has worked tirelessly to raise both funds and the RNLI charity’s profile. Without people like Mary Page the RNLI’s lifesaving work could not continue.’
Ramsey Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild was formed in 1913 as the Ramsey Ladies’ Auxiliary.
In 1926 it evolved into the Ramsey Ladies’ Guild and finally in 1927 it became the Ramsey Ladies’ Lifeboat Guild.
