Beaver scouts from around the island went head to head in a series of fun sport games at the weekend.

The annual competition was held at the Gymnasium football ground in Tromode where members of the different Beaver scout groups called colonies - First Douglas Buggane, First Douglas Loaghtan, Onchan Tuesday, Onchan Thursday and Peel - took part.

Bev Hewson, assistant island commissioner of Beaver scouts, said: ’The event was great fun for the Beavers.

’There were running races, egg and spoon races, sack races, ball and cup races, skipping races and space hopper races. In addition there was a running relay and the last race was a water relay where every member of each colony took part.

’Numerous parents, grandparents, and younger brothers and sisters who had come along to watch and cheer on the Beavers also enjoyed the afternoon.’

The overall winners of the event were the Onchan Second Thursday Beavers, who were also last year’s winners.

A large sports shield was presented to the group by the island commissioner Guy Thompson, which they will hold for one year, as well as a smaller replica to keep permanently.

First Douglas Loaghtan were the runners-up and in third place was Onchan Tuesday. All colonies received certificates for taking part,’ Bev added.
