It will come as little surprise that July was exceptionally warm and dry, with the month breaking a string of long-standing weather records.

While the Isle of Man escaped the 30C-plus temperatures experienced in parts of England and Wales, rainfall was scarce and temperatures consistently reached the 20s.

In its latest monthly round-up, the Ronaldsway Met Office confirmed that July 2026 broke a number of climate records.

Met technician Beth Penhallurick said: 'July has been a month characterised by heat and drought, breaking several long-standing climate records at Ronaldsway.

'The most notable part of the month was the hot spell from July 10-12, which met the official heatwave criteria (three consecutive days with maximum temperatures above 25C), with temperatures reaching 27.2C on Saturday, July 11, the joint fourth hottest July day on record, 1.7C below the all-time July record of 28.9C in 1983.

'That same weekend was also the warmest July weekend on record and the second warmest weekend of any month, behind August 2022.'

However, it was not just a handful of hot days, with warm conditions persisting throughout the month.

Ms Penhallurick said: 'The mean 24-hour temperature was 17.4C, which is 2.1C above the long-term July average, making it the warmest July on record, significantly beating the previous record of 16.9C in 2006 and 2021.

'It also ranks July 2026 as the second warmest month, behind August 1995 at 17.8C, since records began at the airport in 1947.

'There was only 2mm of rain recorded at Ronaldsway, just over 3% of the long-term July average of 60.1mm, making it the driest July on record and the second driest month of any kind on record.

'A meteorological absolute drought (15 or more consecutive days with less than 0.2mm of rain each) ran from July 1 to 24.

'There were 291.9 hours of sunshine, 47% higher than the long-term average and the second sunniest July on record.'
