Police are urging motorcyclists to ensure their belongings are secure after having to halt all traffic on the Mountain Road several times today to retrieve personal items lying in the road.

Offices from the Roads Policing Unit say the consequences of what could happen to someone coming round a corner and finding these things in the middle of the road are unthinkable.

So they are urging everyone to make sure rucksack zips are secure, bags well fastened to their machines and to check that nothing is loose.

A spokesman said: ’Having to close the Mountain Road to ensure the safety of the officers searching for the item and retrieving it out the carriageway also means that motorists are unable to use the road whilst this is ongoing.

’Officers have also stopped a machine which had the sleeve of a jacket dangling down by the rear wheel. Again, can you imagine what could happen if this got dragged into the wheel?’

A red bag (pictured) containing clothing was found in the middle of Mountain Road and handed into officers patrolling the section.

The bag has now being reunited with its owner.
