Peel Sailors’ Shelter is preparing for a busy festive season.
The committee of the Peel Sailors’ Shelter, which reformed as a friendly society in 2014, has strived to make this cosy hall on the quay available to as many individuals and groups as they possibly can - for a modest donation towards the lighting, heating and insurance.
This has proved a remarkable success within the community, with a wide range of events taking place, quite often six days per week.
Children’s parties now have an affordable venue, music groups have a base where they can practise and perform, the Traditional Boat Weekend has a much needed headquarters and dance groups, performance artists and charities have found it an ideal spot in which to engage in their activities.
This Christmas the Sailors’ Shelter will once again have Father Christmas in residence on Saturday, December 16, and Sunday, December 17, from 2pm until about 4pm.
Santa has given instructions as to how his grotto should be prepared and it is expected he will be accompanied by some of his elf helpers. Perhaps a few small Christmas treats will be dispensed.
There will be a priority postbox on site for letters of request - all children’s letters will receive a reply if you fill in the official letter form with your address.
Entrance is free. Families are encouraged to go along and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.
