A doorstep vigil in memory of a woman murdered on her way home in London is being held across the island tonight.

Women of Mann are asking residents to light a candle at 9.30pm in tribute to 33-year-old Sarah Everard.

She was killed on the evening of March 3 in Clapham Common, South London after leaving a friend’s house to walk home in Brixton Hill.

People are being asked to stand on their doorstep or in their window with a candle or light for one minute's silence in Sarah’s honour and to remember other people who have suffered at the hands of male violence against women. Sarah’s murder has prompted a worldwide conversation about violence against women, with many sharing their experiences of sexual harassment, feeling unsafe walking home, or similar.

WOM are asking participants to share their support online using the hashtag #vigilforsarahiom or by tagging @womenofmann on social media, where images will be collated into a public album on their page.
