Children at St John’s School have been supporting Foodbank Fortnight by holding their own Foodbank Fridays.

The youngsters are bringing items to add to a supermarket trolley each Friday, instead of paying for items in their tuck shop.

The first Friday saw them fill the trolley and the school’s aim is to collect 500 items to donate to the FoodBank by the end of the month.

The idea was suggested by the school’s council.

Foodbank Fortnight ran from September 23 to October 7 and encouraged people to set up their own fundraising events in aid of the Foodbank.

The Isle of Man Foodbank said previously that demand had risen by more than 50 per cent in July and August, with 80 parcels handed out this year compared to under 40 in 2016.

It was set up by a number of local charities and faith communities, along with government representatives from Social Care and the Office of Fair Trading. The mission is to meet the unique local community needs.
