A visiting motorcyclist has died following a crash on the Mountain Road - the second death in the same area in two days.
The latest collision took place at 7.30pm last night (Saturday) in the area of Brandywell junction on the A18 and involved a car and a motorcycle.
Police said the rider of the motorcycle, a 27-year-old man from the UK, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the car were taken to hospital and later released.
At 6.30pm Thursday evening a 54-year-old motorcyclist from the UK died when his Honda Fireblade was involved in an collision with a Vauxhall Zafira near the Brandywell junction.
Constable Emily Kaighen from the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team has appealed for witnesses to the latest fatal collision.
She said: ’We would like to speak to anybody that was in the vicinity of Brandywell during the time of the collision. If you witnessed the collision or have any information that could assist police please call police headquarters on 631212.
’We would also like to give thanks to the members of the public that assisted emergency services at the scene.’
